Preparation time: 5 min.
Cook Time: 30-45 min.
Serving size: 1 QT.
Diced tomatoes: 1 - 14.5 oz can
Tomato paste: 1 – 6 oz can
Water: 6 oz.
Brown sugar: ½ cup
Mustard: 1 Tbsp
Grape jelly: ½ cup
Worchestershire sauce: 2 tbsp
Soy sauce, low sodium: 2 tbsp
Chili powder: 3 tsp
Lemon juice: 3 tbsp
Onion powder: 1 tbsp
Garlic powder: 1 tbsp
Lapsang souchong tea leaves: 3 tbsp
Mix all ingredients in a sauce pot.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and reduce to a low simmer.
Cook sauce for 30-45 min., stirring occasionally.
Add more water to thin sauce if necessary. Puree if desired.
Note: two friends reported not liking to have the full tea leaves left in the sauce. Our family liked it that way. One friend is going to grind the tea leaves before adding them to the sauce; the other remove the tea leaves at the end of cooking (she will put them first in a disposable tea bag).
